The caption reads: "Jesse Smith tavern, or cobblestone inn, built in 1847 on the site of an older tavern. Later used as a farmhouse. This building received attention from the Waukesha County Committee on Century Houses, for it remained in the same family until 1947, and was owned successively by Jessie Smith, Mrs. Josephine (Smith) Davis, Mrs. Persis (Stickney) Searl, a cousin of Mrs. Davis and the husband and children of Mrs. Searl. In 1947 is was sold to strangers." |
