Superior citizens felt some anxiety about the uprising spreading to their area and a Home Guard was organized, the stockade built, and the Governor sent Company B of the 8th Wisconsin regiment to protect the area. Superior was not attacked and, by the summer of 1863, the scare was over. The original stockade was large enough to shelter the entire town's population. The site is on Highways 2-13-53 at East Second Street. |
