ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Francis Jefferson Coates was born August 24, 1843 in Boscobel, Grant County, Wisconsin, to William Coates (b. ca. 1817 in Indiana) and Cynthia (Harriet?) Cain (b. ca. 1823 in Tennessee). After the war, Coates learned the trade of broom making. On April 21, 1867 he married Rachael Sarah Drew; children Francis J (1867), Henrietta (1869) were born in Boscobel, Grant County WI. Between 1870 and 1873 they moved to Dorchester, Saline County, Nebraska, where William W (1873), Rena C (1875), and Eva N (1879) were born. F.J. Coates died there on January 27, 1880, of pneumonia at age 36.
