This map shows lakes, rivers, state, county, and town boundaries, as well as railroads completed, in progress, and contemplated. The map includes a color diagram: blue "Niagara Group," green "Cincinnati Group," brown "Galena Limestone," light blue "Blue Bluff (Ironton) Limestone," light orange "St Peter's Sandstone," coral "Lower Magnesium Limestone Red Lead," yellow "Potsdam Sandstone," orange "Quartzytes & Huronian," pink "Granyte & Laurentian." In addition, this copy has manuscript annotations by I.A. Lapham showing "the results of geological explorations and surveys up to the end of the year 1874". Below the title it reads: "Entered according to act of Congress in the year 1873 by S. Chapman with the Librarian of Congress at Washington."
