Photograph
First National Bank of Monroe

This photograph was made soon after the building was completed. It shows a five-leveled structure which was cut down to two and one-half levels in 1921. At right is the old United States Hotel built on site of the first Green County Courthouse, which burned down soon after its completion in 1840. At the left are three buildings, joined in a common front, which were built by Norman Churchill for a group of property investors. These structures remain adjoining the present First National building (1973). They will be removed when the bank expands to the west. |
