Methodist Hospital

The building at 309 West Washington Avenue was built in 1891 for the St. Regina Convent and Academy of the Sinsinawa Dominican nuns across the street from the St. Raphael’s School at which they taught. The three lots on which it was built previously had houses, one of which had been built around 1865 and had previously served as a hotel. The Academy moved to a new building at the Edgewood campus built in 1894. The West Washington Avenue convent building was later acquired by the Wisconsin Methodist Hospital and Homes Association for a 40 bed hospital in March 1920. After the hospital built a new building it became Maude Sager Hall, a dormitory and school for Methodist Hospital student nurses. It was torn down in 1960. |
