The caption that goes along with the photograph reads: "The three story wooden building, built in 1856, was used for storing grain from which it was transferred to barges. It is the only one of its kind on the river. The brick building was also built in 1856 and part of the lowest floor was occupied by Charles L. Barnes, agent for the Diamond Jo Packet Line. Part of the same floor was used for storing grain, while the third floor was used as a dance hall in the early period." |
