High School Student War Work
Three high school students loading a truck at Gardner Baking Company. From left: Edward Witek, Central High, Russell Kundert, Vocation High, and in the background, Frank Wood, Central High. These students divide their days between school work and work about town under a work-credit plan devised by the Board of Education, which is considered one of the foremost in the nation. This work-credit program using students was necessary due to the shortage of workers during World War II. |
