Line drawing of the first paper mill in Neenah, Wisconsin, built in 1865-66 and called the Neenah Paper Mill; it was run by a stock company composed of Nathan Cobb, president; Hiram Smith, secretary and treasurer; Dr. Nathaniel S. Robinson, manager; Edward Smith; John Jamison and Moses Hooper. After the third year of operation, D.C. Van Ostrand purchased interest in it, and he and Hiram Smith rented the mill, calling it Smith & VanOstrand. Eventually they were able to purchase the rest of the stock and became sole owners.
