The building was constructed in 1857 as a railroad hotel, "Brisbois Hotel"; during the Civil War it was used as a hospital for the Union soldiers. John Lawler held the title for a while after the war in a brief attempt to establish a College of Prairie du Chien. In 1874 the Christian Brothers College used it, followed by the College of the Sacred Heart in 1880. It now belongs (1963) to the Campion Jesuit High School, but the building is no longer in use due to its unsafe condition. |
