Russell Lasley

Russell Lasley, an African-american leader of the United Packinghouse Workers union and later the Amalgamated Meatcutters and Butcher Workers union, meeting with Lester Heard, a union member from Tennessee. That state was then attempting to extradite the man from Illinois, as he was wanted for an automobile accident involving a white woman. Heard feared mob violence if he returned. Here Lasley is seen attempting to intervene with Governor Adlai Stevenson in order to help Heard. |
