Welcome Arch on Main Street
View down center of unpaved street towards men passing welcome arch for the Tenth Wisconsin in the middle of Main Street, between Water and First Streets. Jackson County Bank is on the left. The flood of 1911 cut off the bank, except the vault. The bank was moved next door and an opening cut into the vault. On the right is the Jones and Murray Hardware Store. Next was Eckern's Jewelry. Eckern was a hunchback and bachelor, well-known for his kindness and generosity. The store also handled schoolbooks and stationery. |
