Ott-Wright House

Ott-Wright House | Photograph | Wisconsin Historical Society
The house was built in the late 1850s or early 1860s by Donnel and Kutzbock, who also built the first Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison. Originally this house had an iron fence around it, a driveway on the right side and a barn in the back. There were porches on both sides of the front door, without roofs, but with rather high and ornate railings. The foundation of the house is stone and the house itself is built of brick. Every room, including the coal and wine cellar, has two doors, allegedly so designed by Mr. Ott because he feared to be trapped by his wife, who he claimed was insane. Mr. A.O. Wright bought the house in 1889 and recently the Knights of Columbus purchased the property. Bellevue Apartments are visible at left.
