Three Paintings in Senate Chamber

The Senate Chamber in the Wisconsin State Capitol. The triptych features three paintings by Kenyon Cox, of "The Marriage of the Atlantic and Pacific," symbolizing the opening of the Panama Canal. In the center, America enthroned, blesses the union of the two oceans. The left panel Commerce, beckons to Japan and China, behind whom is a figure symbolizing Semitic races. The right panel, Peace, welcomes France with the artist's palette, Germany, with the book of Science, and Great Britain. |
