The photograph caption reads: "The first Deering experimental harvester-thresher was built at Deering Works in 1913 and was similar in principle to the machine shown above. Its design was essentially sound and the No. 1 became the basis of subsequent IHC harvester-thresher construction for many years. Deering harvester-thresher Nos. 2 and 3, and McCormick models Nos. 2 and 6 were patterned after it. The Deering No. 1 differed from the latter models in that it employed a side shake to the riddles and had a 'U' shaped main axle. The No. 1 had a cutting width of 9 feet." |
