Man Holding Monkey in Wisconsin State Capitol Building

David Mackin, Milwaukee World War II veteran, is shown with his monkey, Joe, in a state capitol hearing room. The bill under discussion would allow anyone attacked by any out of control pet animal to shoot it like a dog. The bill was inspired by the alleged antics of Joe the monkey. David Mackin won the monkey gambling from a French merchant marine. The monkey served as the regimental mascot in Africa, Sicily and Italy. |
