Colonel Samuel Stone

Vignetted carte-de-visite portrait of Colonel Samuel Stone (1798-1876), Massachusetts-born Union Colonel. Before his army service, Stone's various occupations included running a dry goods store and serving as an officer for the Michigan Central and Michigan Southern Railroad. Stone was a brother-in-law of Increase Lapham, and shared his love for science. Handwritten inscription at the bottom reads, "Col. Samuel Stone." |
