Thomas Fairchild Brochure

Campaign brochure issued by Thomas Fairchild after his victory in the 1952 Democratic Party primary over Henry S. Reuss. Although Fairchild did not mention by name his Republican opponent, Senator Joseph R. McCarthy, Fairchild's policy statement on internal security was clearly framed with the senator in mind: "I believe in the relentless prosecution of spies, traitors, and subversives. This job must be done within the framework of American principles of justice which protect the innocent while punishing the guilty." For the most part, however, Fairchild campaigned on traditional bread and butter issues. Thanks to a concerted campaign by the state party and help from organized labor, Fairchild ran a strong, but unsuccessful campaign. |
