Hollywood Ten Discussion
At a luncheon sponsored by Americans for Democratic Action, Paul Hays, chair of the ADA New York chapter, discusses the congressional investigation of Hollywood and the "Hollywood Ten" with screenwriter Laura A. Hobson, and Emmet Lavery, president of the Screenwriters Guild. Hobson's book about anti-semitism, "A Gentleman's Agreement," was then experiencing wide critical success as a motion picture. When called to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee, Lavery told the committee he was a Democrat and that Communist influence amongst screenwriters was much overrated. |
