Proxmire at Convention
William Proxmire chats with fellow delegate Edna Bowen on the floor of the National Democratic Convention. Proxmire, then an assemblyman, was making his first race for Governor of Wisconsin. Proxmire would run for governor unsuccessfully three times before being elected to the U.S. Senate following the death of Joseph R. McCarthy in 1957. Edna Bowen was a Democratic candidate for Congress. |
