Democratic Delegates
National Democratic Convention delegates Herman Jessen and Henry Reuss stand on the convention floor. Reuss had been actively campaigning for months for the Senate seat held by Joseph R. McCarthy. He hoped to run unchallenged. However, shortly before the deadline, Thomas Fairchild also filed, and he was ultimately successful in the Democratic primary. Jessen, a mink raiser from Phelps, was the party's candidate for secretary of state. |
