Decoration Day at the Wisconsin State Capitol

The west wing of the third Wisconsin State Capitol on Decoration Day. The steep slope of the western side of the park delayed the construction of the east portico and pediment until dirt from the East Wing terrace could be used to build up the terrace and allow the Woodbury Granite Company to set up its derricks. During construction, the partially completed pediment collapsed, killing one setter. |
