The Madeline Island Historical Museum opened in 1958 and was constructed from four Madeline Island buildings, including a surviving American Fur Company building, Gus Dahlin's barn, the old La Pointe Jail, and the Old Sailor's Home. Bay View School (roof shown in right background), was built in 1872 and became the island library in 1960. These buildings are behind a wooden "pencil" designed fence. There is an impressive flag and flagpole on site. Displayed outside the fence are wagon wheels and a large log |
