Ring Gear Casting
Two men guide cement blocks that comprise a casting for a gear that will be used in a cement kiln. The final gear was later purchased by F.L. Smidth and Company of New York, New York, and used by St. Lawrence Cement Company of Clarkson, Ontario, Canada. Original Falk caption reads, "Construction of mold for casting half of a 22 foot diameter ring gear. Gear Disc: 265 teeth, 1DP, 23 inch face, 10 degree helix angle, single helical full depth mill type teeth, right hand helix. The casting material is Falk Annealed FC cast steel. The rough weight of the complete casting is 64800 pounds. The gear is shown on Falk Drawing 412194." |
