Text on back reads, "Mr. L.A. Blackman is president of the Elloree, S.C. branch of the N.A.A.C.P. until he was boycotted last year for heading a petition for integration. Mr. Blackman was a building contractor and carpenter. 'If ever you join the N.A.A.C.P. there is always some Uncle Tom in the meetings that will go back and tell people just who joined. That is the way they are working against us.' In the recording of the Elloree story, made at a Highlander Folk School Workshop in the Summer of 1956, Blackman tells how courageous Southerners who want peaceful, lawful integration are going about getting it." |
