Note on back of photograph: Group of boarders at Nancy Smith's in Evansville, where Bob and Josephine La Follette lived when they left the farm to go to school in Evansville. Bob La Follette (center standing) was 14 years old at the time this photograph was taken. He was a favorite with this group of boys. Their names, according to Mrs. Siebecker's recollection, are (reading from left to right), standing, Campbell, Unknown, Bob La Follette, Daggett; seated, Daggett (brother of the other), and Williams. Mrs. Siebecker recalls that she was quite ill while they boarded at Nancy Smith's and that she fell ill soon after they came there to live. It seemed best for her to return to the farm and when the time came for her to go, Bob would not stay in Evansville, but accompanied her back to the farm. (8 October 1934) |
