Velma Bell Hamilton

Portrait of Velma Bell Hamilton, born 1910. Born in Beloit, Mrs. Hamilton served as a member of the first Governor's Commission on Human Rights. In 1943 she became the first president of the Madison chapter of the NAACP. In addition to her active career as Chair of General and Liberal Arts Studies at MATC, she was named Wisconsin Mother of the Year in 1974. She received national recognition for her "outstanding services in the field of education." |
