Matrix Banquet

Sigrid Schultz, foreign correspondent and speaker at the annual Matrix banquet sponsored by the University of Wisconsin chapter of Theta Sigma Phi at the Memorial Union, is shown at left, chatting with Virginia Papenfuss, La Crosse, president of the professional jounalism society. More than 500 women attended the dinner event. The theme of her speech was that more sense and less sentimentality is what American needs at this point in her all out efforts to help secure world peace. Miss Schultz was director of the Chicago Tribune's Central European bureau in Berlin, and served as Berlin commentator for the Mutual Broadcasting System from 1938 to 1941. In 1945 she was war correspondent in the European theater and was with the first American detail to enter Berlin. |
