Shell Manufacture at Milwaukee Works
Factory worker painting artillery shells at International Harvester's Milwaukee Works. Original caption reads: "75-Millimeter Shell Manufacture. The exteriors of the shells are painted by an automatic paint spray which sprays paint on the shells as they revolve on a turntable. At the same time the interiors of the shells are given a spray of lacquer. The shells are held in place on narrow clamps which cover the copper bands of the shells. This way, while all of the rest of the shells are painted, the paint does not cover the copper bands." |
