Shell Manufacture at Milwaukee Works
Goverment inspector checks artillery shells at International Harvester's Milwaukee Works (factory). Original caption reads: "75-Millimeter Shell Manufacture. A government inspector uses the ingenious Electrolimit automatic gauge to check the outside dimensions of the shell. The shell is inserted into the gauge and is checked simultaneously for dimensions at seven different points. Should there be any variance from the proper dimensions a small electric light on the gauge informs the inspector of the defect. Plus and minus signs above the lights indicate if the shell should happen to be too thick or too thin in its measurements. At the left the operator also checks the shells for weight." |
