Portrait of Elderly Ho-Chunk Woman
Full-length studio portrait of an elderly Ho-Chunk woman, Mary Snowball Decorra Buffalohead (PayDokSeKah [Edge of brow is yellow]), sitting and holding a porcupine quill-work bag. The pipe bag is not of Ho-Chunk origin. In the background is a painted backdrop. She was born in 1863 and died November 20th, 1940. She was the wife of John Buffalo Head (ChayPayKay) and the mother of five children: Grace, John, Stella, Frank and Carrie. (Daughter of Snow Ball [WauSooMonEKah] and [WaConChaWinKah]) (Maternal granddaughter of Iron Walker and Green Feather Woman). |
