Accompanying the photograph is a testimonial letter reading: "This is to certify that the above is a photograph of my McCormick Wire Binder, purchased from your agent, C.A. Monk, Belleville, Ill., in 1879. I have cut my entire wheat crop with it each year, including the present. My total expense for repairs has been $1.50, and a new sickle $4.00. The binder has given me no trouble whatever, and I regret very much to be obliged to discontinue its use, for practically no other reason than expense and trouble in getting wire. Several years ago, I purchased at a sale a second-hand Deering Twine Binder, which I have used to cut my oats, and I have no hesitancy in saying my wire binder runs lighter, gives less trouble, and has cost me less for repairs than the Deering Twine binder. I recommend the McCormick for durability and general work, and appreciate the convenience of securing repairs on short notice. Yours truly, (signed) Jno. Whiteside." |
