Studio Portrait of George Lowe and Family
Full-length studio portrait of a Ho-Chunk man posing standing, and a Ho-Chunk woman posing sitting in front of a painted backdrop. The woman is holding a child in her lap. They are identified as George (Lyons) Lowe (AhHaZheeKah), who is dressed in a winter coat and hat and his wife, Lena Nina Marie Decorah (Lyons) Lowe (AhHooSkaWinKah), and their infant son Martin (MaHisSkaKah). The Lowes were first listed on the census as Lyons, taking the name of a farmer they had worked for. The last name was later changed to Lowe, which is a shortened English version of their Indian name. |
