Engraving of a watercolor painting by Karl Bodmer (1809-1893) from a 1832-1834 series portraying American Indians, Indian life, ceremonial objects, and Western scenery. Engraved by Hurlimann and others; printed by Bougeard; published by J. Hölscher in Coblenz, Ackerman and Company in London, and Arthus Berkland in Paris. Some with embossed stamp: c. Bodmer Direct. This image is also viewable in the American Journeys online edition of "The Original Journals of the Lewis and Clark Expedition."
