Mitchell's Greasing Palace
Robert Mitchell's Madison service station, 529 University Avenue. During the 1920s service stations evolved from curb-side shacks to more attractive buildings that echoed popular residential architecture. Local wags called Mitchell's large Spanish Revival station, with its five pumps and four bays: "Mitchell's Greasing Palace." |
