Reverse of cardboard backing reads: "Madison (Wisconsin) Free Library reading room, taken from front end. Shows part of the study alcove, corner of Reference Room, charging desk and offices back of catalog case. Bound periodicals are shelved in Reading Room, alphabet starting in corner of alcove shown, going straight around the room and ending in corner between entrance and window seat, where also are shelved boxes of current periodicals."
