This photograph won the top award for 1959 Wisconsin Press Photographer's Association Pictures Competition, Personality category. Eleanor Roosevelt was photographed at a press conference held just before she delivered her formal lecture at the Wisconsin Union Theater. Her speech made a plea for greater concern by individual citizens to help the United State assume the leadersip role in the free world to fight communism.
