Lakeland Truck with Metro Body

Lakeland Truck with Metro Body | Photograph | Wisconsin Historical Society
A man sits behind the wheel of an International LM-150 truck owned by the Lakeland Fruit & Produce Company. The truck is parked with its rear toward an open garage door at the company's main plant; the text on the side of the truck reads: "Minute Maid Authorized Seller" and "Cedergreen Frozen Fresh Foods." The original caption reads, "The Lakeland Fruit and Produce Company of Minneapolis has recently added to its 35-unit fleet an International LM-150 truck equipped with refrigerated Metro body for delivery of frozen fruit and produce in the twin-city area. It is shown at the Company's main plant at 905 North Fifth Street. It makes an average of 35 stops a day. Another recently purchased International, a Model L-160 with 12-foot van body is shown to the rear. Of the 35 trucks operated by the Company, 30 are Internationals. The Company does business in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Dakotas and the trucks are used to make deliveries within a radius of 150 miles of the main plant. This plant is 130 feet by 150 in size with loading and unloading platforms both at back and rear. Its frozen food department is located on the second floor of the Merchants Cold Storage, No.2 plant in Minneapolis. The Lakeland Fruit and Produce Company was founded in 1932. Mr. S.J. Piazza is president and Mr. H.C. Johnson is vice-president.
An advantage of this new Metro stated by Mr. Piazza is that it is not necessary to unload the truck at the end of a run; also, that it is possible to load the truck for more than one day's deliveries. Thus, longer routes are possible and return trips are reduced. The new LM-150 truck shown, is painted an attractive combination of green on the lower half and yellow on the upper half with letters and trim in red."
