Bamby Donut Truck
A man removes a wire tray filled with wrapped packages from an International LB-110 truck owned by the Excelsior Baking Company. The truck is parked along the curb of a residential street, and the text on the truck reads: "Bamby Delicious Donuts; Macaroon, Honey Nut, Orange, Pineapple, Raised, Bismarks; Ideal for Lunches." The original caption reads: "Twenty-five new LB-110 International trucks with special "to-the-door" delivery bodies have recently been added to the big fleet of 124 units (123 Internationals) operated by the Excelsior Baking Company of Minneapolis. One of these, painted brilliant yellow and maroon with the trade name Bamby prominently lettered thereon, is shown with driver about to make a delivery in a residential section of North Minneapolis. In keeping with the special design of this truck is the message "at your kitchen door" printed on the side of the truck. Two sets of driving controls are provided on the new LB-110 for stand-drive and sit-drive and the two brake pedals operate independently of each other. Starting and stopping without clutching or shifting is made possible by means of a new converter-coupling which automatically provides torque multiplication for starting and accelerating. In making his deliveries of rolls, cookies, cakes, doughnuts, and various kinds of bread, the driver can conveniently work from the rear or from the front as shown. Sixteen steel racks are provided for bread and a space below 12-inch high is available for miscellaneous goods. The Excelsior Baking Company operates some 69 routes in Minneapolis and 40 in St. Paul. Besides the delivery trucks, such as shown, the company uses a number of transport trucks to convey goods from its main plant to several substations." |
