American Pipe and Construction Company Truck

Two men standing on a pipe on the bed of a International truck use a crane to unload one of the pipes. A long building, possibly a warehouse, is in the background. Other pipes lay on the ground near the truck. The original caption reads: "The northwest division of the American Pipe & Construction Company makes use of two big International motor trucks with 35-foot flat-bed trailers to transport heavy concrete and steel pipe, plates for steel elevated tanks, and similar products to various jobs in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana. One of these trucks, a new Model L-195 with 157-inch wheelbase International Super Red Diamond Engine and Comfo-Vision cab, is shown being loaded at the company's big Portland plant. The two lengths of concrete pipe shown were part of an order for an outfall sewer for the city of Olympia. Each length was 32 feed long, 30 inches in diameter inside, and weighed 8,100 pounds. The steel water pipe shown being loaded with the two concrete lengths was 20 inches in diameter, was coated inside with coal tar enamel and outside with asbestos paper, and was for a new water system for the Tacoma-Seattle airport." |
