The original caption reads: "Installation of PA-50 in the mine of Beam & Merritt on Turkey Run out of Cheshire, Ohio. Connected to 40-horsepower generator, supplying lights, and Sullivan Shotwell cutting machine. Consuming 2 1/2 gallons of gas per hour at 14 cents, producing 30 to 40 tons of coal per day of 8 hours. 42-inch vein. Burgin Beam, son of the owner, and Thomas Young, salesman for Miller Garage, the I.H.C. dealer in Pomeroy, Ohio, appear in the photo. This motor furnishes more power than they can use but they wanted a surplus and are very well satisfied. It is impossible to get comparative costs from these fellows: I do not believe they ever kept a record and to get information from them is impossible; yet they are as tickled and proud of these motors as a kid with a new toy and cannot praise their operation high enough." |
