"Pfister and Vogel Leather Company (was) founded in 1848. The company prospered between the Civil War and World War 1, when such Milwaukee firms were major leather tanners to boot, shoe and glove manufacturers in the U.S. The 1920's were difficult years for the company, which Vogel reorganized and renamed the Pfister and Vogel Tanning Company in 1930, and later reoriented as the P & V Atlas Industrial Center, Inc. He (Charles P. Vogel, 1895-1959) served as chairman of the board of both companies. The family eventually sold the tanning firm." 12/10/2004 from the Lubar School of Business, UW-Milwaukee. |
