Street Scene
Street scene during winter. The town is no longer in existence; it sprang up during construction of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad and had the reputation of being the "toughest town in the U.S." The town, named for President Taft, was located between Saltese, Montana and Mullan, Idaho. A wood pile is near the storefronts, which appear to be taverns. Business signs read: "Swanson Bros. Saloon" and "Anheuser-Busch St. Louis Beer." Caption reads: and "Taft, Mont., West." |
