University Service Flag

The large service flag that honored all University of Wisconsin students who served during World War I on display in the Reading Room. The students themselves created the flag which consisted of 1,750 blue stenciled stars, each embroidered with the name of an individual. It was first displayed in Bascom Hall on Decoration Day, 1918. The flag was then taken down and displayed in the Historical Society Library, then also the Library of the University. |
