Dinner at the Chuckwagon

View across field toward ranch hands having dinner at the chuckwagon. A dozen or so men are sitting on the ground, while a few other ranch hands mind the cattle. A horse stands to the left of the scene, and the wagon sits to the right. Caption reads: "The Chuck Wagon, Dinner at the Round-Up, 101 Ranch." In 1975, the ranch was designated as a National Historic Landmark. A chuckwagon was originally a wagon that carried food and cooking equipment on the prairies of the United States and Canada. The invention of the chuckwagon is attributed to Charles Goodnight, a Texas rancher who introduced the concept in 1866. |
