LBJ and Merriman Smith
Merriman Smith of UPI, the "dean of the White House correspondents," with President Lyndon Johnson, in the White House. Smith enjoyed a close relationship with the President, and Smith worried he might cross the line of journalistic objectivity. This image was part of a scrapbook of humorously-captioned images presented to Smith in 1968 by the President to mark his 55th birthday. |
