The Cloquet Lumber Co., also known as the Northern Lumber Co., worked in conjunction with the University of Minnesota in establishing a school forest, called the Cloquet Forestry Center, in 1909. The company deeded many uncut acres to the school. The 1918 fire in Cloquet devastated the area and consequently the company, a large employer in the area. |
