Text reads: "Destroy Grasshoppers with Poisoned Bran Bait; Young grasshoppers hatch in spring from eggs laid in ground the previous fall or late summer. To make POISONED BAIT Mix thoroughly 1 lb. of Paris green or white arsenic into 25 lbs. of brain or alfalfa meal. Dilute 2 qts. of low grade molasses with from 2 to 5 gals of water (using the larger amounts of water in dry climates) and add the juice and rind of 6 finely chopped lemons or oranges. Stir this syrup into the poisoned bran or meal to make a wet mash. Scatter broadcast over infested fields, using from 5 to 7 lbs. to the acre. For further information see FARMERS' BULLETIN 747. U.S.D.A." Photograph taken for International Harvester's Agricultural Extension Department. International Harvester Company employees sometimes stamped photographs with the word 'kill.' The stamp indicated that they considered an image to be obsolete and wanted the negative destroyed. This would prevent someone from accidentally using an outdated photograph in an advertisement or other company publication. For a small fee WHS staff can remove the word from the image during the reproduction process. |
