The building was located at 636 West Washington Avenue, adjacent to the Milwaukee Road railroad depot. In later years it had been home to Rod's Club, a gay bar; Club de Wash, a music venue; Barber's Closet (and Salon), Cafe Palms, and others. Preceded in death by its owner, Rodney Scheel, who died in 1990. He had purchased it in 1975 and had been instrumental in its development into a local cultural center. |
