Hitler in an Open Car

American journalist Cecil Brown took this photograph of Adolf Hitler riding in the backseat of an open vehicle with King Victor Emannuel seated beside him. At Mussolini's insistence, the king had invited Hitler for an official state visit. Mussolini was determined that the visit be more impressive than the one extended to him in Germany by Hitler. The leaders had just witnessed an air show at Furbara, Italy, where the Italian Air Force put on an impressive show that included bombing ships and forming a swastika in the sky. Pictures of that performance are also included in Brown's scrapbook. |
